Templates

Templates give your 1-to-1s and follow-up emails a consistent structure. CadenceOne comes with ten agenda templates and four email templates, and you can edit them or create your own.

The Templates section

The header shows how many templates you have, how many of them are yours, and how many were applied or never applied.

  • Filter by type on the left: Agenda, Questions, Summary or Email, and by origin: Built-in or Your own.
  • Each card shows the first lines of the template, and how many times it was applied or sent, or Never used.
  • Open a card's menu to Edit, Duplicate or Delete it. Double-click a card to edit it.

Deleting a template happens immediately, without confirmation.

Built-in agenda templates

Template When to use it
Weekly 1-on-1 The default weekly slot. Their agenda first.
Quarterly goals check-in Every quarter, to revisit goals, workload and priorities.
Onboarding - first 90 days A new team member, from day one to their first delivery.
First 1-on-1 as their new manager After a reorg or a team change.
Career development and next level Where they want to go, and the gap to the next level.
Giving corrective feedback One behaviour, one conversation: situation, behaviour, impact.
Supporting someone under strain Overload, fatigue, a hard personal stretch.
Addressing a performance gap A formal conversation, to write down afterwards.
Preparing a performance review Before the review cycle, so review day holds no surprises.
Return after leave Coming back from parental, sick or extended leave.

Apply an agenda template from the preparation screen: its lines are added to the agenda as shareable topics.

Only Agenda templates can be applied to a 1-to-1. Questions and Summary templates are kept in the Templates section as reference lists.

Creating a template

  1. Click New template in the toolbar.
  2. Enter a Template name and choose a Type. The type cannot be changed later.
  3. For an agenda, questions or summary template, add a Description and one line per item with Add a line. Empty lines are ignored.
  4. Click Create template.

To start from an existing template, Duplicate it and edit the copy.

Email templates

An email template has a Subject and a Body. Placeholders are replaced with the meeting's content when the follow-up email is built:

Placeholder Replaced with
{firstName} The team member's first name
{date} The date of the 1-to-1
{topics} Covered shareable topics, shareable notes and wins
{decisions} Decisions
{actions} Promises from the meeting, with owner and due date
{deferred} Topics to revisit
{nextDate} The date of the next 1-to-1
{yourName} Your name, from Settings

Turn on Include completed promises to list promises already done in {actions}.

The four built-in email templates are Full summary (everything), Short summary (actions and next meeting), Actions only, and Custom message (a greeting and your name, for you to write the rest).

Restoring the built-in templates

If you changed or deleted built-in templates, click Restore built-ins at the bottom of the filter list, then Back up, then restore.

  1. CadenceOne first asks where to save a full backup of your data. If you cancel, nothing changes.
  2. Any built-in template you edited is kept as one of your own, with your name added to its title.
  3. The original built-in templates are then recreated, including the ones you deleted.

Your own templates are not touched.

Built-in templates are created in the app's language at first launch. Changing the language later does not translate them.
