Team members

A team member is a person you hold 1-to-1s with. Adding someone creates no account for them and tells them nothing: the record lives only on your Mac.

Adding a team member

Press ⇧⌘N, or click Add a team member in the Team members section.

Field Notes
First name Required.
Last name Optional.
Work email Optional. Pre-fills the recipient of the follow-up email. If you fill it in, it must be a valid address.
Role Optional, for example "Senior iOS Developer".
Team Free text. Teams you already use appear as buttons under the field, so you can pick one instead of retyping it.
Frequency How often you want to meet: Weekly, 2 wks or Monthly. New people get the default cadence set in Settings.
Color The colour of their avatar across the app.

Click Add, or press Return. To change these details later, select the person and press ⌘I or click Edit.

Team names that differ only by capitals or accents are treated as the same team.

Cadence debt

CadenceOne compares the time since your last completed 1-to-1 with each person against their cadence:

Cadence Expected gap
Weekly 7 days
Every 2 weeks 14 days
Monthly 30 days
  • On track (green): within one expected gap.
  • Late (amber): more than one gap, up to two.
  • Critical (red): more than two gaps, or you have never met.

A person on an ad hoc cadence is never rated, but still sorted by days. Everywhere in the app, people you have never met come first, then the longest silences.

A team member's page

Select someone in the Team members section, or click their name in the sidebar.

The banner

  • Last exchange: days since your last completed 1-to-1, coloured by cadence debt.
  • Promises open: how many are open between you, and how many are late.
  • Meetings held: completed 1-to-1s.
  • Mood · 5 weeks: private, from the moods you recorded.

If the person has no email address, a notice reminds you that the follow-up email needs one.

When you owe this person something overdue, a What you owe card lists it at the top of the page, so you see it before you walk in.

Timeline

The right column is the person's history, newest first. Use the filter menu to show All, Meetings, Promises, Decisions or Achievements.

  • 1-to-1 entries show the meeting status, the number of topics and the recorded mood.
  • Decision, Promise and Win entries show what was captured, and when.
  • Click the chevron on a meeting or decision to reopen that meeting.

Development goals

Goals track what a person is working towards, over months. They are private.

  1. Click + next to Development goals. A goal called "New goal" is created and opens for editing.
  2. Give it a Title, a Category (Technical, Leadership, Communication, Organization, Career, Other) and a Status.
  3. Add Details and Milestones. Tick milestones off as they are reached.
  4. Click Done. Changes are saved as you type.

Double-click a goal to edit it again.

A new goal starts as Considered. Set it to In progress once you both commit to it: only goals in progress appear as Goal in flight in the preparation and on This week. The other statuses are Paused, Achieved and Dropped.

Achievements

Achievements are the wins worth remembering at review time: a launch, a hard conversation handled well, a skill acquired.

  1. Click + next to Achievements. "New achievement", dated today, opens for editing.
  2. Fill in the Title, Date, Context / project, comma-separated Tags and Details.
  3. Click Done.

A win captured in meeting mode with + Win becomes an achievement too, linked to that meeting. The most recent achievement is offered on This week as something worth saying out loud.
