Using Apple's Passwords app

The password manager is already installed on your devices.

If you mainly use an iPhone and a Mac, the simplest choice is the Passwords app built into recent versions of iOS and macOS. It stores:

  • usernames
  • passwords
  • passkeys
  • 2FA verification codes
  • Wi-Fi passwords

Data can sync between your devices through iCloud Keychain when it is turned on.

5.1 On iPhone

Open the Passwords app. Access is protected by Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode. Inside you will find:

All
Passkeys
Codes
Wi-Fi
Security

5.2 On Mac

Applications
→ Passwords

or search for "Passwords" with Spotlight.

5.3 Let the manager create your passwords

When Safari or an app offers "Use Strong Password", accept. You do not need to memorise the password — the manager remembers it for you.

5.4 Stop creating all your passwords yourself

YOU remember:
- your iPhone passcode
- your Mac password
- your essential recovery information

THE MANAGER remembers:
- Instagram
- Facebook
- Amazon
- Reddit
- Dropbox
- shops
- forums
- and so on

5.5 Check for compromised passwords

Apple can flag passwords that are weak, reused, or exposed in a known data breach.

  2. Apple account
  3. bank
  4. social media
  5. sites holding a bank card
  6. other accounts
